Location Location of Acqua Mines in Naljo. |
Acqua Mines is a cave system in Naljo.
It is the location the player ends up in at the start of the game, and where they receive their first Pokémon, Larvitar. Much of the cave is inaccessible on the player's first visit.
The Acqua Mines connect Phlox Town and Caper City. The mine cart that the player arrives in can later be used to travel between various caves in the Naljo Ruins. Close to the Phlox Town entrance, there is access to the basement of Algernon Laboratories.
There is a tidal cave in the mines, with a water level which changes depending on the time of day. Some items and caves are only accessible at certain times. The Legendary Pokemon Libabeel can be found here at low and medium tide, though reaching it requires the use of HM03 (Surf).
First Visit[]
After being separated from their mother by a rockslide, the player character rides a mine cart which breaks down on 1F of the mines. Traveling north, the player will encounter a Larvitar, which they must take with them to progress. The pause menu cannot be accessed until the player encounters their first wild Pokémon, just before reaching the ladder in the north of the cave floor.
On 2F the player can find a Potion. After walking around to the south of the cavern they will find another Larvitar, which runs away into a hole in the ground. The player can then take control of their own Larvitar to explore the cave, eating piles of dirt to clear the way, and activating a button to remove the boulder blocking the exit to the mines. By speaking to the wild Larvitar they will be given a Soft Sand.
Once the boulder is removed, the player can fall down the hole to a small cavern, which prevents returning to the mines until later. An NPC here will give the player an Oran Berry. Leaving the cave leads to Caper City.
Returning to the Mines[]
There are mine carts in Mound Cave (B3F), Firelight Caverns (B3F) and Clathrite Tunnel (1F, requires Surf), and using them will return the player to Acqua Mines 1F, in the same location as at the start of the game.
If the player can use Surf, they can explore the lake on 1F, finding several items and a cave entrance in the north-west corner. This leads to B1F and then to the tidal cave.
Alternatively, once the player reaches Phlox Town there is a cave leading directly to the tidal cave. There are also ladders leading down to B2F, which can always be reached from this entrance. This has an entrance to the Algernon Laboratories basement, which requires Strength to access. It is also guarded by a level 50 shiny Rhydon, which is wild and can be caught.
Tidal Cave[]
This part of the mines varies in appearance and accessibility depending on the time of day. There are three states: high tide, medium tide and low tide. The only wild Pokémon found here are encountered while fishing or surfing.
Tide level | Times active | ||||||
Low | 0:00 - 5:59 | ||||||
Medium | 6:00 - 11:59 | ||||||
High | 12:00 - 17:59 | ||||||
Medium | 18:00 - 23:59 | ||||||
At high tide, no items are available, but the entrance leading to the rest of the mines can be reached with Surf.
At medium tide, a cave in the top-right can be reached which contains a Sharp Beak. Libabeel can be encountered here, but the player can only reach it via B1F, which requires using the mine cart.
At low tide, a PP Up can be found in the top-left of the lake bed, and a cave in the bottom-left contains a Trade Stone. Libabeel can be encountered here and a Blue Flute can be found, but the player can only reach them via B1F, which requires using the mine cart.
The top-left of the tidal cave has a ladder leading up to Phlox Town and a ladder leading down to the Algernon Laboratories basement, which are accessible at all tides if the player can reach the lake or lake bed.
