Haunted Forest

The Haunted Forest is a location in Rijon, north of Botan City. In all three of the Rijon games, it is accessible via a gatehouse in the north of Botan City.

Location of Haunted Forest in Rijon.

The forest plays a role similar to that of the Pokémon Tower in Red, Blue, and Yellow. It consists of several maps connected by warp panels, acting as stairs. The first two areas contain no wild pokémon or trainers, with a warp panel in Area 1 leading down to a cavern, Area 2. This is where the player encounters their rival Mura to battle for a third time.

All other areas in the forest contain wild pokémon. However, if the player does not have the Virus Scan, they will appear as MissingNo. and cannot be fought or captured. As there is a MissingNo. in the shape of a Chansey blocking the way to Area 7, the Virus Scan is needed in order to complete the Haunted Forest.

The Channelers in the forest can still be battled without a Virus Scan, as their pokémon will not be glitched. There is also a 2x2 tile area in Area 5 which heals the player's party.

Area 7 contains three Rocket Grunts. Defeating them will free Mr. Rumiko, who returns to Botan City with the player and gives them a Poké Flute.

The Virus Scan is required to encounter any Pokémon that can be battled or captured. Without it, Gastly and Haunter will appear as a glitched Hypno, and Cubone as a glitched Marowak. All of these "MissingNo.s" can only be run from.

Just before the warp panel to leave Area 6, the player will encounter a glitched Chansey MissingNo. at level 30. This is revealed to be a Kangaskhan (possibly in reference to the rumor that a Cubone is an orphaned baby Kangaskhan).

Location

Location of Haunted Forest in Rijon.

The player must come to the Haunted Forest and Haunted Mansion before they can challenge the Torenia Gym. The exterior forest is a graveyard on a single map, though it now also contains the entrance to the mansion in the top-left.

There are a number of colored graves in the forest, and to unlock the door inside the Haunted Mansion, they need to be visited and touched in a specific order An NPC inside the Mansion entrance room gives this sequence of colors to the player: red, gray, blue, yellow, brown and teal.

Eevee can evolve into Leafeon if leveled up here.
