Ilex Forest is a forest in south Johto, between Azalea Town and Route 34. It is connected to Rijon by Route 48-B (Cycling Road in Rijon Adventures).

Location Location of Ilex Forest in Johto.

Ilex Forest must be passed through for the player to reach Azalea Town and Slowpoke Well. It consists of a winding path with several alternate routes, though all of them pass by the forest shrine halfway down. Surf can be used to skip a small portion of this path, though there is an item in the top-right that the player might miss. The gatehouse in the south, between Ilex Forest and Azalea Town, is considered part of the forest in the Town Map, and contains a couple of further items.

Uniquely in Brown version, the wild Pokémon are encountered in tall grass. There are no trainers in this area.

Both the north and south gatehouses are considered part of Ilex Forest on the Map, so items obtained in the north gatehouse are included here.

Although there is a sign below the lake warning the player to watch out for dropped items, there are no hidden items in Ilex Forest, aside from Gold Tokens. There are no trainers in this area, and no Pokémon can be encountered by Surfing.
