Spurge Gym is the eight and final gym challenge of the Naljo region.
The first time the player reaches Spurge City, the gym can not be challenged because Leader Bruce is preoccupied with apprehending the Palette Rangers and the scientists behind the genetic enhancement experiments.
Once the player clears the Algernon Laboratories quest in Phlox Town, the player may return to Spurge City and challenge the Spurge City Gym.
Once the player starts the challenge, Leader Bruce takes the player's pokemon, and they must retrieve them from within the gym. Various gym leaders also take part in this challenge, and the player must defeat them in order to access some of the pokemon that were taken.
Once the player is conferred the Naljo Badge, they may challenge the Rijon League.
