In Pokémon Brown, there are new type mechanics added to the ones normally occurring in Gen I. The later types Steel, Dark and Fairy are added, and some types have changes to their weaknesses and resistances.

There are also six entirely new types: Abnormal, Gas, Sound, Tri, Wind and Wood.

Of these, only Gas, Sound and Tri are carried over to Pokémon Prism, although they have been updated.

Abnormal-type moves[]

  • Disable: Disables one of the opponent's moves for a random amount of time.
  • Metronome: User attacks with a random move out of all possible moves. Can be taught through TM35 (Found in the Final Dungeon).
  • Mimic: Becomes the opponent's last used move until the battle ends or the user is switched out. Can be taught through TM31 (Given to the player in Moraga Town).
  • Recover: User regains half their maximum HP.

Despite the mechanics being coded into the game, there are no known Abnormal-type moves which deal damage.

  • Barrage: Deals damage 2-5 times in one turn.
  • Smokescreen: Lowers the opponent's accuracy by one stage.
  • Smog: Deals a small amount of damage and may poison the opponent.

Sound-type moves[]

  • Growl: Lowers the opponent's attack by one stage.
  • Noise Pulse: Deals damage and may confuse the opponent. Can possibly only be learned through TM46 (found in Koolboyman Mansion B1F).
  • Screech: Lowers the opponent's defense by two stages.
  • Sing: Low accuracy, but puts the opponent to sleep if it hits.
  • Supersonic: Low accuracy, but confuses the opponent if it hits.
  • Sonicboom: Deals 20HP damage.

Wind-type moves[]

  • Gust: Deals a small amount of damage.
  • Haze: Resets the stat changes of both the user and opponent to 0.
  • Mist: Prevents the user's stats from being lowered (until it switches out).

Tri type[]

This type is used exclusively for the move Tri Attack, and combines all the type effectiveness of Electric, Fire and Ice types. Despite all three of these types being Special in Gen I, Tri Attack itself deals Physical damage.

  • Dragon moves now deal 2x damage against Rock-type pokémon

Moves[]

Most moves have changed their types to what they became in later generations, e.g. Charm is Fairy-type and Bite is Dark-type. However, there are some changes unique to this game:

  • Focus Energy is Flying-type
  • Karate Chop is Normal-type (as in Gen I)
  • Pound is Fighting-type
  • Sand-Attack is Normal-type (as in Gen I)
